Your Downloads & Updating

This page is for the Direct (DRM-free) edition bought on savevault.app. Steam buyers install and update through Steam, and the free builds on GitHub Releases update in-app the same way the Direct edition does.

Checkout is handled by Stripe. When the payment goes through you land on a downloads page on savevault.app that lists every installer for your purchase: Windows, macOS and Linux, in both the Full build (rclone bundled, so cloud backup works out of the box) and the smaller Lite build (install rclone with one click in Settings when you need it).

Two things arrive by email, from two senders:

  • Your download link, from SaveVault (orders@savevault.app). It opens the same downloads page.
  • Your receipt, from Link, the Stripe service that acts as the seller of record for the payment. Your card statement shows the charge as LINK.COM* followed by our name.

There are no license keys and no account. Download the installer, run it, and you’re done.

The downloads page is also your re-download link, so bookmark it or keep the email. It works on any device and always offers the current release, so it’s the place to get SaveVault onto a second PC, a Steam Deck or a new machine - one purchase covers all of them.

The individual file links on that page are tied to your order and expire after a day, so always start from the downloads page rather than a saved file link; an expired link simply brings you back there. Each order can download four installers per day and eight in any 30 days - enough to set up every platform you own and reinstall - which stops a leaked link from being used as a public mirror. Updates never count against this; they arrive inside the app. Need more? Contact us and we’ll lift it.

Lost the link? Contact us with the email address you used at checkout and we’ll send it again.

Each platform’s steps are in Installation. In short: Windows runs the .exe installer; macOS unpacks the app bundle and drags it to Applications; Linux marks the AppImage executable (SteamOS included - see Steam Deck & Handhelds for Game Mode).

Updates are free and arrive inside the app. SaveVault checks savevault.app for a newer version, shows the release notes, and installs the update when you accept; every update bundle is signature-verified before it is applied. You can also check manually from Settings. Nothing about your saves, games or backups is sent during the check - it compares version numbers only.

Switching between Full and Lite later is just a matter of installing the other build over the top; your settings and backups are untouched.

Payment support, receipts and refunds for Direct purchases are handled by Link (Stripe); see our Terms of Sale for the refund window. For anything about the software itself - something not detecting, a restore that didn’t go to plan - contact us first. We’d rather fix it.
